Events for Term 1!

Hopefully everyone has had a wonderful start to the year. If it is anything like Sawyers Valley, we have started the year running!
Sawyers Valley Sharing has organised events throughout the year but here are a couple to get you or a friend started:

Introduction to History via Centra
This is an online workshop that was done last year and will be run again for those who need a refresher or for people who haven't started with History yet. You can register for the workshop via the IPL website. It will be held on the 11th of March from 3:30 - 5;30. Please make sure your school is Centra ready. Registrations close the 4th of March.

SHACC ~ Science & History Australian Curriculum Collective
This is an exciting new stage in the TDS world with Science@GreenmountTDS and Sawyers Valley Sharing combining forces to present a series of Action Learning Workshops throughout the year. The first event will be on the 2nd of April at Greenmount Primary School. To register, please go to the IPL website. Registrations close the 26th of March.

Year One - Present and Past Family Life

Welcome back to another busy year ahead in all schools in Western Australia!

Last year the Year Ones were exploring Present and Past Families and their teacher Anne Gemser asked them to look at an image of a family from the Victorian Era and look at what is different and what is the same. They were then asked to illustrate what their family looked like.

Knowledge & Understanding -
  • Differences in family structures and roles today, and how these have changed or remained the same over time (ACHHK028)
Historical Skills
  • Distinguish between the past, present and future (ACHHS032)
  • Explore a range of sources about the past (ACHHS034)
  • Identify and compare features of objects from the past and present (ACHHS035)
Using images from the past can be reliable sources and will eventually lead to them being able to extract information to be used as evidence in the later years.

Below are 2 examples from the Year Ones:

REMINDERS:
  • Keep an eye on the IPL website for all our events this year. We are offering Centra, Science & History Australian Curriculum Collective (SHACC) @ Greenmount PS and History Hikes! Watch this space.

  • Make sure you are part of the Connect Community via the Portal so you can ask questions with access to many professionals throughout Western Australia!
  • Access the Western Australian Curriculum via SCSA.
  • Geography is now on-line for familiarisation via the Australian Curriculum Website
That's all for now!
